In 2006 Yusufu Mbaziira started with the cycling club Kampala Cycling in one of the poorest neighborhoods of the capital of Uganda. With the training boys and girls establish a rhythm in their lives, a goal, a direction. Meanwhile Kampala Cycling has grown substantially and has become of indispensable value in the community.
The establishment of Kampala Cycling provided regularity in their normal somehow aimless days. Slowly the group of boys and girls' enthusiasm grew and also the ambitions. Talented members competed in local and (inter)national competitions. With great help from the Netherlands from enthusiastic volunteers, the Royal Dutch Cycling Federation and Lola Kampala Cycling now has better clothing and equipment and they work with professional training programs. Kampala Cycling also started the first ever bike messenger company of East Africa.
But Kampala Cycling has bigger dreams; a Ugandan cyclist in the world top and its own coffee shop and workshop! A place where the best coffee is served and bikes can be repaired. An activity that promotes mobility in the area and that also creates jobs and provides training opportunities. With the contribution from the sale of the Lola Kampala Gold coffee we are trying to raise money to make those dreams a reality. A portion of the proceeds from every Lola Kampala Gold coffee bag is used for that purpose.
